THE EXORCIST’s Ellen Burstyn Coming to Melbourne this March!
Ellen Burstyn, star of THE EXORCIST and REQUIEM FOR A DREAM, is coming to Melbourne this March to play lead in 33 VARIATIONS, a play written by Moisés Kaufman and directed by Gary Abrahams.
An obsession, a love story, family dysfunction and a two century-old mystery combine in the witty and deeply moving 33 VARIATIONS, a theatrical event that brings together the most prestigious cast ever assembled on an Australian stage.
Oscar, Emmy, Tony, BAFTA and Golden Globe winning legend Ellen Burstyn makes her Australian stage debut opposite Lisa McCune, William McInnes, Helen Morse, Francis Greenslade, Toby Truslove, Andre de Vanny and Andrea Katz.
Burstyn plays Dr Katherine Brandt, a musicologist trying to solve the riddle of why one of the world’s greatest musical geniuses became consumed with a forgettable piece of music by a mediocre composer, and how his obsession inspired a spectacular masterpiece. Moving between the past and present, the play interweaves Beethoven’s struggle to complete his magnificent Diabelli Variations with Katherine’s search for answers. Meanwhile, Katherine’s daughter Clara seeks to connect with her mother as they face the greatest challenge of their lives.
Featuring live performances of Beethoven’s magnificent music by renowned pianist Andrea Katz, the witty and profound 33 VARIATIONS is sure to be one of the theatrical highlights of 2019!
33 VARIATIONS opens Thursday March 7th and is currently scheduled to run until Sunday March 24th at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne, for tickets visit here.
