A QUIET PLACE
One of 2018’s defining horror films, this little nerve-shredder boasted an inventive premise that harkens back to the era of silent cinema – that is, until it punctures the safe silence with a series of anxiety flooding screams and jolts. But the real secret to A QUIET PLACE’s success is the moving family drama it finds amidst all the creature-feature terror – undoubtedly bolstered by director John Krasinski starring alongside his real wife Emily Blunt. A family of four must navigate their lives in silence after mysterious creatures that hunt by sound threaten their survival. If they hear you, they hunt you. Both the 4K Ultra-HD & Blu-ray releases contain three production featurettes covering everything from behind-the-scenes to the visual effects of the film and the 4K Ultra-HD has Dolby Vision and a haunting Dolby Atmos track that is anything but quiet!
RAMPAGE
Fans of The Rock, inventive B-movies, movies based on 80s arcade games and mutant animals clobbering each other to death have serous reason to rejoice as all of this hits living rooms in one neat little package called RAMPAGE. The sheer lunacy, along with Dwayne Johnson’s typically charismatic grounding performance, means the film’s ludicrous fun is downright impossible to resist. Johnson stars as primatologist Davis Okoye, a man who keeps people at a distance but shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, incredibly rare albino silverback gorilla who has been in his care since he rescued the young orphan from poachers. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals. As these newly created alpha predators tear across North America, destroying everything in their path, Okoye teams with discredited geneticist Kate Caldwell (Naomie Harris) to secure an antidote, fighting his way through an ever-changing battlefield, not only to halt a global catastrophe but to save the fearsome creature that was once his friend. The 4K Ultra-HD & Blu-ray releases contain five production featurettes, deleted scenes and a gag reel, the 4K Ultra-HD features Dolby Vision and an immersive coffee table shaking Dolby Atmos track.
ISLE OF DOGS
Wes Anderson’s latest project, a stop-motion movie set in Japan and starring celebrity voiced canines, is even more offbeat and loveable than that descriptions sounds thanks to the director’s uniquely offbeat aesthetic approach. A clear labour of love, the film is perhaps Anderson’s best looking one to date – art cinema with a beating heart sure to reach any moviegoer. ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of Atari Kobayashi, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies to Trash Island in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture. Blu-ray release features 6 productions featurettes, photo gallery and trailer.
PARADOX
A Thai action thriller from the director of the IP MAN trilogy, PARADOX is a typically visceral and bloody affair. Boasting a number of stunning fight sequences, and a grimly propulsive plot, fans of Asian action cinema won’t want to miss out! Hong Kong police negotiator Lee Chung-Chi has learned that his 16-year-old daughter Wing-Chi has disappeared while in Thailand. He travels to Thailand and teams up with Chinese officer Tsui Kit and his partner, Tak, as they face off against American gangster Sacha, who is operating a black market organ smuggling ring. A series of clues lead Chung-Chi to not only learn the fate of his daughter, but overcome the odds to stop the ring once and for all.
