In Cinemas

Thursday October 26th
THE UNTAMED (Limited Release)
Winner of the coveted Silver Lion (Best Director) at the 2016 Venice Film Festival, Amat Escalante’s THE UNTAMED is a body horror influenced by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, David Cronenberg and Andrzej Zulawski’s POSSESSION. After a young woman is injured by a mysterious creature, she becomes a conduit for its insatiable desires and begins grooming a Mexican family grappling with their own dysfunctions.

BRIGSBY BEAR (Limited Release)
Dave McCary’s feature-length directorial debut is a wildly original coming of age tale with a heavy nod to feverish nostalgia. Brigsby Bear Adventures is a children’s TV show produced for an audience of one: James. When the show abruptly ends, James’s life changes forever, and he sets out to finish the story himself.

George Clooney’s back in the director’s chair, helming a script he’s co-written with the Cohen brothers and Grant Heslov. Suburbicon is a peaceful, idyllic suburban community with affordable homes and manicured lawns …the perfect place to raise a family, and in the summer of 1959, the Lodge family is doing just that. But the tranquil surface masks a disturbing reality, as husband and father Gardner Lodge (Matt Damon) must navigate the town’s dark underbelly of betrayal, deceit, and violence. This is a tale of very flawed people making very bad choices. This is Suburbicon.

Aubrey Plaza stars in a social media savvy SINGLE WHITE FEMALE that switches out suspense for cringe-worthy moments. Ingrid Thorburn (Plaza) is an unhinged social media stalker with a history of confusing “likes” for meaningful relationships. Taylor Sloane (Elizabeth Olsen) is an Instagram-famous “influencer” whose perfectly curated, boho-chic lifestyle becomes Ingrid’s latest obsession. When Ingrid moves to LA and manages to insinuate herself into the social media star’s life, their relationship quickly goes from #BFF to #WTF.

Home Entertainment

Wednesday October 25th
After a whirlwind festival run locally this year that included Sydney Film Festival, Dark Mofo, Melbourne International Film Festival & Revelation Perth International Film Festival, the heartwarming documentary SPOOKERS arrives on home entertainment this week. As night falls at SPOOKERS, dozens of seemingly ordinary people become freaks, zombies and chainsaw-wielding clowns. Every weekend come rain, hail or shine, this diverse group of amateur performers unite to terrify punters at the southern hemisphere’s largest scream park, situated in a former psychiatric hospital. Director Florian Habicht (PULP: A FILM ABOUT LIFE, DEATH AND SUPERMARKETS) reveals the transformative and paradoxically lifesaving power of belonging to a community that celebrates fear.
If you’re anything like us, prank calls likely played an important part of your youth, whether it be the old ‘is your fridge running’ gag to a slightly more sophisticated use of the Arnold Schwarzenegger soundboard (“I’m a cop, you idiot”). Arriving just in time for Halloween, DON’T HANG UP is the perfect excuse to spend a night in with the phone firmly off the hook!
Sam and Brady love prank calls, and not only do they love to scare the people they randomly call, they also record everything and put it on the internet, so everyone can see how scared their victims are. Little do they know that they are about to become victims themselves as the tables turn. One evening the two friends receive a call from a mysterious stranger who seems to know everything about Sam and Brady, about their families and friends. As the caller starts to play a sadistic game with Sam and Brady, their lives are at stake and there seems no way to win. Grab it now on DVD!
Aussie found footage feature, CAGE DIVE played our MONSTER FEST TRAVELLING SIDESHOW in Brisbane earlier this year and gained international interest with Lionsgate in the US acquiring the film and rebranding it OPEN WATER 3: CAGE DIVE. In this intense thriller, three friends from California head to the rugged Australian coast for a cage-dive encounter with deadly great whites. But after attracting a swarm of vicious sharks, their tour boat is destroyed by a massive rogue wave. As clouds gather and darkness descends, the three friends find themselves alone and defenseless, afloat in the chilly ocean as hungry man-eaters begin to circle. With little hope of rescue, they must fight to survive using only their courage.
Casper Van Dien & Dina Meyer return to the STARSHIP TROOPERS franchise albeit this time around in voice only in this latest animated instalment in the series. Federation trooper Johnny Rico is ordered to work with a group of new recruits on a satellite station on Mars, where giant bugs have decided to target their next attack.
After receiving the coveted Best Director award earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival, Sofia Coppola’s adaptation of Thomas Cullinan’s beloved novel THE BEGUILED (aka A PAINTED DEVIL) is slow though ultimately rewarding exercise in style and suspense. When a wounded Union soldier, Corporal McBurney (Colin Farrell), is found near the school, he’s taken in by its headmistress, Miss Martha (Nicole Kidman). As the young women provide refuge and tend to his wounds, the house is taken over with sexual tension and dangerous rivalries when McBurney seduces several of the girls. Taboos are broken and events take an unexpected turn in this gripping and haunting thriller also starring Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning.
Has there been a lull in your life of late with the lack of found footage films? Well Eagle Entertainment have you covered with THE GRACEFIELD INCIDENT, a feature that looks to have been more than a little inspired by that BLACK MIRROR episode, ‘THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF YOU’. Matthew Donovan, a video game editor, embeds an iPhone camera into his prosthetic eye to secretly record and document a weekend with friends in a luxurious mountain top cabin. The weekend takes a terrifying turn when a meteorite crashes the party forcing everyone to face off against extra-terrestrials.
