Halloween Home Entertainment Announcement Roundup!
Halloween once again proved the best time of year for genre enthusiasts worldwide as aside from the obvious, it brought with it a slew of announcements by labels of upcoming horror releases on home entertainment. No one could be anymore excited than us at Cult of Monster about what the near-future has in store for us collectors and purveyors of classic cult cinema so we’ve put together a list of all the aforementioned announcements.
Arrow Video had hinted at it on October 30th with a Tweet that simply read “horror has found a new home” then on October 31st revealed that they would be releasing THE HOUSE COLLECTION in both the US & UK territories. Aside from the image and text below, no further information has been provided on the collection so at this stage we can only assume it will include all four films in the franchise making their worldwide debut on Blu-ray. To say we’re excited is the understatement of 2016, Steve Miner’s seminal 1986 gem HOUSE is among one of our all-time favourite comedy horrors.
The good folks at US label, Scream Factory announced no less than ten films, the bulk of which are making their high-definition debuts on Blu-ray. Admittedly the one we’re most excited about is the 1980 obscurity DEMENTED which hasn’t seen the light of home entertainment since home video back in the early eighties. Here’s the list of all ten films along with Scream Factory’s Facebook post…
TALES FROM THE HOOD
WHAT’S THE MATTER WITH HELEN?
THE SCREAMING SKULL (1958)
THE VAGRANT (1992)
THE ANGRY RED PLANET (1959)
MOUNTAINTOP MOTEL MASSACRE
88 Films announced the twenty-fourth entry into their Slasher Classics Collection with the oddball 1986 flick MOUNTAINTOP MOTEL MASSACRE. What’s more they’re doing a limited edition run of 999 units with a slipcase and individual numbering, a standard edition will follow shortly after.
The 1977 possession film CATHY’S CURSE not only has one of the craziest taglines of all time, “I sent mommy to the mad house, I scared the butler to death, I threw nanny out the window, now three of us are left…daddy, dolly…and me…me…me” but also one of the highest incidences of bootlegging about. Severin Films will present the first legitimate release of the film in the new year with an uncut English language version in its original aspect ratio accompanied by special features (and the original US theatrical cut).
Well that about rounds up all the Halloween announcement by our label friends overseas and all we can say is that that the future’s so bright we’re gotta’ wear shades!
