We’re pleased to announce that principle photography began yesterday in Wellington on our latest Monster Pictures acquisition, LOWDOWN DIRTY CRIMINALS.
LOWDOWN DIRTY CRIMINALS is a new feature film starring James Rolleston (THE DARK HORSE, THE BREAKER UPPERERS) and Toi Whakaari graduate Samuel Austin. The ensemble cast featuring some of New Zealand’s hottest talent also includes Robbie Magasiva (SIONE’S WEDDING, WENTWORTH), Rebecca Gibney (WANTED, PACKED TO THE RAFTERS) and Cohen Holloway (HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE).

Directed by Paul Murphy (SECOND HAND WEDDING, LOVE BIRDS), LOWDOWN DIRTY CRIMINALS is a comedy crime caper that tells the tale of two naïve young men searching for a better life. Disillusioned by social convention Freddy (James Rolleston) and Marvin (Samuel Austin) believe that a life of crime will provide them with the future they are seeking, or in their own words, setting them up with “Monies and Honeys”. The script was written by David Brechin-Smith (INSIDERS GUIDE TO HAPPINESS, THE CULT).
On being cast in the lead role, James Rolleston commented: “I immediately loved the script and jumped at the chance to play Freddy. It’s so good to be back doing what I love, especially with such an awesome cast and crew.”
Director Paul Murphy also commented: “The calibre of our cast is a testament to Lowdown Dirty Criminal’s edgy and hilarious script and I can’t wait to see the action-packed story brought to life.”
LOWDOWN DIRTY CRIMINALS is financed by the New Zealand Film Commission, with additional support from Avalon Studios, Global Film Solutions and Hells Pizza. It will be produced by Robin Murphy and Sadie Wilson for Lowdown Productions. Catherine Fitzgerald (ONE THOUSAND ROPES, THE ORATOR) will executive produce.
The film will be distributed in Australia & New Zealand by MONSTER PICTURES with international sales handled by MPI MEDIA GROUP.
