THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES Finally Gets a Home Entertainment Release!
That’s right folks, Scream Factory will release 2007’s THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES on Blu-ray & DVD this October in the US! Written and directed by John Erick Dowdle (QUARANTINE, DEVIL, AS ABOVE SO BELOW), THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES was acquired by MGM back in 2007 after its premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. Due to be released theatrically that year, in fact the trailer played prior to THE MIST in cinemas, it could have been the film to kickstart the found footage movement two years prior to PARANORMAL ACTIVITY’s theatrical release.
For reasons still yet to be disclosed, MGM shelved it and while a screener leaked to the internet in 2009, THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES never had an official release until some seven years later when it suddenly appeared on US cable service, DirectTV.
Now over a decade since its festival premiere, THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES will finally see the light of physical release courtesy of Scream Factory in the form of a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack due out on October 10th. Please note that Scream Factory lock their releases to Region A/Region 1 so you’ll need a region-free or modified-player if you want to grab this bad boy!
About the film:
Throughout the 1990s, a serial killer terrorised upstate New York. After a decade-long crime spree conducted largely under the radar of law enforcement, the killer left behind the most disturbing collection of evidence homicide detectives had even seen – hundreds of homemade videotapes that chronicled the stalking, abduction, murder and disposal of his victims. THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES examines these horrific tapes at length: what they reveal about the killer, why they were made and how FBI profilers have used them to better understand violent, psychopathic behaviour. THE POUGHKEEPSIE TAPES combines interviews surrounding the devastating impact of the “Water Street Butcher,” with shocking footage from the tapes themselves.
