WIN a Double Pass to THE BOYS IN THE BAND in Melbourne!
This Saturday, Cinemaniacs present a rare screening of William Friedkin’s THE BOYS IN THE BAND, proceeded by a lecture with revered film historian Lee Gambin!
THE BOYS IN THE BAND is the second feature to screen from Cinemaniacs boldest program yet, ‘It’s Enough to Make A Person Drink: Alcoholism in Film‘, that also features Howard Hawks’ 1959 western classic RIO BRAVO and Blake Edwards’s heartbreaking love story DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES.
Director William Friedkin (THE EXORCIST, SORCERER) and playwright Mart Crowley serve up the acclaimed and groundbreaking THE BOYS IN THE BAND, adapted from Crowley’s hallmark off-Broadway play – a witty, perceptive and devastating look at the personal agendas and suppressed revelations swirling among a group of gay men in Manhattan. Harold (Leonard Frey) is celebrating a birthday, and his friend Michael (Kenneth Nelson) has drafted some friends to help commemorate the event. As the evening progresses, the alcohol flows, the knives come out, and Michael’s demand that the group participate in a devious telephone game unleashes dormant and unspoken emotions in this iconic classic. Co-starring Cliff Gorman (Cops and Robbers).
